From a philosophical standpoint, a car is just a piece of machinery that gets people from point A to point B. While some choose to do it the practical way and get the most out of stock accessories such as SUV seat covers, steering wheel, and truck floor mats, others choose to have their vehicles glazed with a paint job, car seat cover, and audio system modifications.

Motorists have this propensity of tinkering with their vehicles’ sound systems. Some even splurge a truckload of cash on their audio systems in the process. However, there are certain things to understand when deciding to have modify a car’s audio system. Such considerations include the question whether to buy an entire car audio system or buying each of a system’s components piecemeal. Getting a new audio system for a car entails a lot of window shopping, much like buying an SUV a new set of SUV seat covers.

As far as SUV car seat covers are concerned, there are many trends when it comes to sound systems that are made for vehicles. The audio speaker is just a tip of the iceberg. Other accessories include equalizers and subwoofers. You also have to decide where to place the speakers. One cannot just go to the nearest mall or specialty shop and buy speakers in one swoop as things are not easy when choosing speakers; it is a known fact among car enthusiasts and modifications experts that more speakers do not necessarily mean better sound quality. (Basically, that is the audio amplifier’s job.)

If you have finally decided to add some audio zing to your car, you have to choose how you would like the system to be installed to your car: flashy or in a more subtle manner. Flashy installations entail putting the speakers in prominent positions. Installing speakers subtly might not be as attractive but it certainly will save you space as sound would come from under the truck floor mats.

Another thing to consider is whether you would like to keep the integrity of your vehicle’s frame or to cut the metal body to compensate for the new sound system. Cutting a car’s metal frame however, is considered an illegal act and will forfeit Warrants of Fitness.

There are two trends in car speakers system today – the multi axial system and the component system.

In a multi axial system, two or more speakers share a common chassis. The multi axial system primarily consists of a tweeter, a small speaker that produces high frequencies of sound, and a woofer, which produces low frequencies. The tweeter is generally located at the middle of the woofer. Some multi axial speakers have at most 4 speakers and may vary in size from a radius of two to five inches.

The component system, on the other hand, produces a variety of frequencies in all ranges. The bass and high pitch speakers also help amplify the audio output. Typically the bass is situated at the back and the high pitch speakers at the forefront. The whole set up usually consists of a subwoofer, two tweeters, and two midrange speakers. The subwoofer — which has a bass and a sub bass — gives that oomph to whatever the passengers are listening to.
